A Few Tips for Home Offices

After the coronavirus entered our lives, when we started working from home, the dining table in the living room, the counter in the kitchen, any chair or coffee table in the house became our workspace. We found ourselves working in the same environment with our family members unexpectedly, away from our offices with ergonomic office furniture.

Given this situation, it became a necessity to create a productive working environment at home for those who are used to working at an office.

Here are some tips to make your home-office healthier:

  • Do not keep the items in the workroom that might distract your attention such as TVs.
  • Pay attention to your posture to prevent complaints such as neck, back and waist pain, etc. To prevent the pain, avoid working on couches with the computer on your coffee table or on your lap.
  • It would be helpful to have an office desk and office chair if possible.
  • Even though the dimensions of the desk can vary depending on your workspace, it would be appropriate to have a minimum size of 120 x 60 cm.
  • Choose an office chair that is mesh, has lumbar support, and adjustable in both height and back support to prevent back and neck pains.
  • When adjusting your office chair, make sure to set the height so that your feet rest flat on the ground when sitting upright. This can prevent your back and waist from straining.
  • The likelihood of the heights of your home table and chairs being exactly the same as office furniture is quite low. If your home table is 3 cm higher than usual and your chair is of standard size, you will eventually feel pressure in your arms and waist. To prevent this, having an adjustable chair that can be raised or lowered, or one that is proportional to your height, allows you to create a workspace at any table you desire.
  • One of the key points for productive work is lighting. Ensure that the space you work in gets as much natural daylight as possible. If daylight isn’t sufficient, choose luminaires that are easy on the eyes and adequately illuminate your workspace.
  • Let some fresh air into your room frequently.
  • Prefer healthy snacks for a higher concentration.
  • Don't forget to take short breaks to relax muscle tension, rejuvenate motivation and concentration.

We all faced an unusual situation. It’s important to accept that this situation arose out of necessity and is temporary…

Stay safe and healthy…
